Imagine if you will, a group of Christians brought together in a church for reasons God is still showing them. Each is given a 36" piece of thread. Each thread is different in color representing the different gifts brought into the group. Each is strong and useful on it's own. 36" will sew on a couple of buttons, maybe hem one leg on a pair of pants. Very useful but there would be limits on what you could do. But what if you tied them all together? They would be even more useful with that much length. You could sew a whole pair of pants, or even a shirt. And then, what if you folded them all together and twisted them so tight they doubled up. Have you ever seen that? The photo in the banner up top is 8 strands of 36" thread, tied together and twisted until they doubled up. Looks like a rope now to me. And imagine all the usefulness of a rope compared to a single piece of thread.
That's what we are now, wonderful threads brought together by God to work for Him as a rope. Each of us is strong and gifted on our own but together we are a powerful force looking to add threads to God's rope.
